THE NEXT GLOBAL INNOVATION FOR SMART AGRI SOLUTIONS GROOOW® A HYDROPHILIC SOIL CONDITIONER

GROOOW® is an innovative and sustainable answer to the growing demand for food security. Especially in areas where food production must increase in order to feed two billion additional people by 2050. GROOOW®’s unique formula reinforces the soil structure against increasing drought and climate change, in addition to raising crop productivity. Driven by the vision of bringing smarter soil with higher productivity
per square metre to 600 million farmers and their families in developing countries, increasing their self-reliance and enhancing the regional value chain. Our mission is to rewire the relationship between humankind and nature, by building a smart soil solution that will ensure sustainable food production to feed future generations.

ACCELERATION

The true springboards to acceleration are the successes that farmers and market gardeners achieve using GROOOW®. Seeing is believing. Marketing is therefore simple, with up-to-date, powerful visual representations. Storytelling and ‘walking the talk’. This is also communicated via the website www.grooow.eu and the social media channels YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.

CLIMATE-SMART AGRI SOLUTIONS

As a sustainable hydrophilic soil conditioner, GROOOW® increases soil quality for growing crops by storing water at the roots of the plant, shrub or tree. In an efficient cycle with sufficient nutrients and its power to provide aeration: it serves as a ‘lung’ in the earth. Thereby stimulating the nitrogen cycle to make a sustainable contribution to the flora and fauna. GROOOW® results in more stable and increased productivity per square metre of multi-annual crops on existing agricultural land. Resulting in sustainable increased production of vegetable proteins as well as more good quality food. With higher nutrient density, for both people and animals in the region. The soil life is enriched with a sustainably stronger ecosystem for growing crops, without destroying additional natural land for agricultural use. Climate change is a global issue, hence GROOOW® is operating on a global scale.

GROOOW®’s unique composition strengthens the soil structure and interaction with the plant. Soil acidity (pH) is regulated by compost mixed with peat. The correct pH promotes nutrient absorption and plays an important role in the development process of plants, shrubs and trees. The compost is enriched with specific natural nutrients, and also functions as a second absorption layer.

SMART AND LOCAL SOURCING

The production process is simple, based on optimal local sourcing. The raw materials are purchased, pro- cessed and mixed locally as much as possible. This is done in order to stimulate regional economies and also to restore cycles by using local waste streams, as well as reducing CO2 emissions related to transport.

This concept will be developed into a permanent system in accordance with the laws and regulations of the countries involved. Crop growth and soil development will be measured continuously. This data will be translated into meaningful insights using smart technologies. Smart data, local and hand-held, will be available to the farmers involved.

AN IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE UN'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Increased food securityis the driving principle behind GROOOW®. With a growing world population to nearly 10 billion by 2050, and major challenges as described in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, GROOOW® touches more than half of these goals. In particular it contributes to ending hubger, poverty and reducing inequality.

IN A GROWING MARKET FOR GROOOW

There are around six hundred million farmers worldwide, with only 10% of them productive by Western standards. Many small farmers work and live across Africa, Southeast Asia, India and South America. Promising regions with a strong need for economic growth, especially through investments in agribusiness. In which GROOOW® is the answer to increasing food security. Climate change in Europe and on other continents is increasing the market for GROOOW®. The Water Purification Act was recently introduced in the Netherlands. From 2027, market gardeners will be required to purify residual water flows on their own premises. They must reuse used nutrients, or process them sustainably, which obviously means higher costs. The Greenhouse Horticulture Programme strives to reach (nearly) zero emissions of fertilisers and crop protection agents by 2027. Closed water recycling loops at the level of the company or area are essential. As well as the availability of sufficient good irrigation water. Because GROOOW® stores water, including nutrients, at the root of the plant, efficiency increases and less nutrients are leached out. Reduced water consumption means fewer nutrients leached from the soil and lower costs.

VALUE FOR THE FARMER WITH MULTI-YEAR ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND ECOLOGICAL RETURNS

An initial investment is required in order to kick-start activities, either from the farmer him/ herself or through co-operatives and chain partners that will organise repayment. This investment is quickly recouped by more yield due to higher productivity per m2. As a result of increased income of crops the farmer will reach its breakeven point after two to three harvests. For market gardeners this will take one to two years, with long-term, sustainable social and economic returns because GROOOW® is effective for four to six years. Reinforced by the assurance provided by processors and retailers in the chain.

GROOOW® is a Climate-Smart Agriculture solution and leads to greater biodiversity with more attention and respect for the cycle between animals and nature, the countryside and the environment.

Next to an increase of the farmer’s yield, GROOOW® will lead to:

  • More circular and bio-based economy;
  • More CO2 binding;
  • Less erosion;
  • More insight and knowlegde for famers thanks to smart data and handheld;
  • Less leaching and less fertiliser and pesticide use.
